Clayton reported
the findings of a Limited Surficial Soil Investigation at the Valley Industries facility at
1313 South Stockton Street in Lodi, California in a report dated August 12, 1997
(Clayton 9-97). Due to time and access limitations, deeper samples from below stained
areas and the oil/water separator were not collected. The purpose of the proposed
additional sampling investigation will be to further assess the extent of surficial
petroleum hydrocarbon contamination identified during the previous investigation and
determine if waste water passing through the oil/water separator into the sewer system
has resulted in potential releases of regulated substances that have impacted the subject
property's subsurface.
BACKGROUND
Clayton's initial site reconnaissance identified various process and storage areas and
stained surfaces where apparently regulated substances had been released. Clayton also
identified the oil/water separator on the south side of the Production Building facility
where it connects to the municipal sewer line for disposal of waste water. Based on
these observations and information obtained during the site visit, a sampling program was
desiEmed to determine if the past uses of the property had resulted in any significant
releases to the property that might require additional investigation, disclosure, and or
remediation.
The initial Limited Surficial Soil Investigation (Clayton 9-97) did not include drilling
below a depth of one foot in order to expedite the investigation. Deeper sampling
requires a drilling permit with the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division
(SJCEHD). The initial investigation identified four areas where elevated concentrations
K:T-NIRTROPOSALTKASE11\97- 3I.wPD
C:+s,on Enveronm"ralcmn itants.lnc.
