Clavton
Grant Trigger Page
Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn Clayton Proposal No. 97SFOEb1R-;31
October 7, 1997
of total recoverable petroleum hydrocarbons (TRPH) were detected in subsurface soils, in
areas where surficial staining was apparent. Additional chemical testing for volatile
organic compounds (VOCs), semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs), and metals was
also conducted, and no other areas of concern were identified.
PROJECT APPROACH
Clayton proposes a project approach which includes conducting additional soil sampling
at the five locations where elevated TRPH concentrations were found. Add tlanal borings
are proposed adjacent to the oil/water separator and connecting subsurface piping. —
Borings will be completed using truck-mounted GeoprobeO equipment to collect
subsurface soil samples to determine the vertical extent of the releases identified during
previous sampling and also sample below the oil/water separator and piping to determine
if this system leaked and released regulated substances. This proposal includes a cost
estimate to conduct the investigation.
SCOPE OF WORK
In accordance with the project approach summarized above, Clayton proposes to conduct
the following specific tasks:
• Prefield Activities
• Soil Sample Collection
• Laboratory Analysis
• Project Management and Report Preparation
Task 1: Prefield Activities
Clayton will obtain a soil boring permit from the San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Division.
Clayton will prepare a site specific Health and Safety Plan (HASP) for the work
proposed at the site. The HASP will detail the work to be performed, safety precautions,
emergency response procedures, nearest hospital information, and onsite personnel
responsible for managing emergency situations.
At least 48 hours prior to starting sampling activities, Clayton will mark the work area
with white paint and notify Underground Service Alert (USA), as required by law, to
identify underground utilities leading to the subject property. In addition, Clayton will
contract a professional utility locating service to attempt to identify the location of
underground utilities in the vicinity of proposed boring locations. Clayton will not
advance a boring within three feet from a known underground utility.
K. i'-MRTROPOSALIPHASEM97- 31 WPD
