• •
2.0 SITE BACKGROUND
• 2.1 SITE DESCRIPTION
The following sections describe the surface and subsurface features of the subject property and the
surrounding area. This information was obtained from public records, information supplied by Amerco/IJ-
Haul, and from on-site observations by Blaes Environmental.
2.1.1 Site Location and Layout
The property is located on the southwest comer of the intersection of Shamrock Street and Tam O'Shanter
in Stockton, California(Figure 1). The property is within Section 15,Township 2 North,Range 5 East, of
the Lodi South, California Quadrangle (U.S. Geological Survey 7 %2-minute Series topographic map,
photorevised, 1968).
The property consists of a predominantly concrete paved lot with one existing single-story building that
includes office and service bay facilities. The site is currently used for vehicle rental, repair, and
maintenance. The site features are shown on the Site Plan in Figure 2.
• 2.1.2 Site Physiography
The property lies at an elevation of approximately 20 feet above Mean Sea Level. Natural surface drainage
in the area is toward the southwest (U.S. Geological Survey topographic map, 1968). However, in the
immediate vicinity, natural drainage has been altered by development. Visual observation in December 1997
indicated that on-site runoff drains to the south and east across the property.
2.1.3 Depth to Groundwater in the Site Area
Based on available groundwater data from the San Joaquin County Flood Control -Water Conservation
District, the depth to groundwater in the site area ranges between approximately 50 to 60 feet below the
ground surface(San Joaquin County, 1996).
2.2 UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANKS
Amerco/U-Haul records identified two underground storage tanks at the site including one 6,000-gallon
gasoline tank and one 6,000-gallon diesel fuel tank. A summary of tank information and the location and
orientation of the former underground storage tank is presented in the following sections.
•
2
