Cleaning caustics - tank and floor cleaning . This
substance is referred to as hypo-chloride solution and
is used in a 2 - 5% concentration level similar to that
of household bleach . This product is received by the
Applicant in 50 gallon drums , and is stored in our
chemical storage area , which is near eye-wash shower
and drains . Employees using this substance are required
to wear goggles and protective gloves . Because the
solution used of this substance is basically the same
concentrated level as household bleach , excess amounts
of the substance used in cleaning are washed down the
normal sewer and drain systems .
Activated carbon - used as a wine additive . This
substance is added directly to our wine in the storage
tanks . All employees wear respirators when handling this
substance . Any spillage of this substance during use is
simply hosed down into our normal drain and sewer system.
The Applicant also intends to install an ion exchanger used
to adjust the PH in our wine products . This ion exchanger
utilizes sulphuric acid . The sulphuric acid is delivered
by a vendor who loads our holding tank directly in a sealed
process . Our holding tanks will be contracted in an area
surrounded by a concrete retaining wall that will retain
any spillage within that specific area . if a leak would
take place , proper authorities would be notified immediately
by the applicant . Employees do not handle this substance
directly . The use of this substance is handled by way of
manipulating valves within the entire ion exchange system.
These valves are also located within the concrete retaining
wall . While employees are using these valves , they wear all
protective clothing, including goggles .
-26-
