SECTION 02201 <br />EARTHWORK <br />PART 1 - GENERAL <br />1.01 DESCRIPTION <br />A. General: The Contractor shall perform all excavation, shoring, <br />dewat , backfilling, compaction and grading necessary or required <br />forth onstruction of the work as covered by these Specifications and <br />indicated on the Drawings. The excavation shall include, without <br />classification, the removal and disposal of all materials of whatever <br />nature encountered, including water and all other obstructions, that <br />would interfere with the proper construction and completion of the <br />required work. <br />B. Site Access: Access to the site will be over public and private roads. <br />The Contractor shall exercise care in the use of such roads and shall <br />repair at this own expense damage thereto caused by his operations. <br />Such repair shall be to the satisfaction of the owner or agency having <br />jurisdiction over the road. The Contractor shall take whatever means <br />are necessary to prevent tracking of mud onto existing roads. <br />C. Storage of Materials: Neatly place excavated materials suitable for <br />- backfill far enough from the excavation to prevent stability problems. <br />Keep the materials shaped so as to cause the least possible <br />interference with plant operations and drainage. Keep materials shaped <br />so as to allow ease in estimate of stockpiled soil. <br />D. Existing Facilities: Maintain acces- to existing facilities to permit <br />continued operation as required by t:.e General Conditions. Maintain <br />access for fire fighting equipment and to fire hydrants. <br />1.02 REFERENCE SPECIFICATIONS <br />A. Whenever the words "Standard Specifications" are referred to, the <br />reference is to the State of California, Department of Transportation <br />(CALTRANS), standard Specifications dated January 1988. <br />1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE <br />A. Source Quality Control: Contractor shall test import materials <br />proposed for use to demonstrate that the materials conform to the <br />specified requirements. Tests shall be performed by an independent <br />testing laboratory favorably reviewed by the Engineer.
