0 <br />E <br />Field Quality Control: <br />I. The Engineer will: <br />a. Review and test materials proposed for use. <br />b. Inspect foundations, site grading, and borrow operations. <br />c. Inspect placement and compaction of fill. <br />d. Test soils during placement of fill. <br />e. Pay for in-place compaction tests. <br />2. Contractor shall be responsible for costs of additional inspection <br />and re -testing results from non-compliance/ <br />Testing Methods: <br />1. Durability Index: Manual of Test, State of California, Department <br />of Transportation. <br />2. Laboratory Density: ASTM D1557, Method A or C. <br />3. In-place Density: ASTM D1556 or ASTM D2922. <br />4. Particle Size Analysis of Soils: ASTM D422. <br />5. Plastic Limit and Plasticity Index: ASTM D424. <br />6. In-place Moisture Content: ASTM D3017. <br />1.04 SUBMITTALS <br />Samples and Test Results: Furnish, without additional cost to the <br />Owner, such quantities of import materials as may be required by the <br />Engineer for test purposes. The Contractor shall cooperate with the <br />Engineer and furnish necessary facilities for sampling and testing of <br />all materials and workmanship. Submit test results for import <br />materials. All material furnished and all work performed shall be <br />subject to rigid inspection, and no material shall be delivered to the <br />site until it has been favorably reviewed by the Engineer, or used in <br />the construction work until it has been inspected in the field by the <br />Engineer. <br />PART 2 - PRODUCTS <br />2.01 MATERIALS <br />A. Import Backfill: Imported nonexpansive soil with liquid limit no <br />greater than 40 percent and a plasticity index no greater than 15 <br />percent, free from clods or rocks larger than 2 inches in greatest <br />dimension, and free from organic material. <br />B.
