Backfilling may be accomplished by one of several
techniques, depending upon the backfill material to be used, the depth of the boring, and
Lwhether the boring contains groundwater. Techniques that may be used are as follows:
• Pour dry bentonite pellets or chips into borehole in approximately 2-foot lifts. Add
L •
approximately one gallon of clean water after each lift to hydrate bentonite,
• Pour cement grout into borehole as a continuous lift,or
L • Pour thick bentonite slurry into borehole as one continuous lift.
L • Pump cement grout from the bottom of borehole using a hose or tremie pipe.
