Underground Storage Tank Systeemoval and Assessment • <br /> Sears Unit#0555, Tracy, California <br /> 3.0 FIELD ACTIVITIES <br /> ' 3.7 Work Parameters Determination <br /> ' As part of the permitting process,the Tracy Fire Department(TFD)was contacted and permit number <br /> 1014522-405-R371 was issued for removal of the UST. In addition, a permit was obtained from the San <br /> ' Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(SJCEHD)to remove the UST. The TFD and <br /> SJCEHD were scheduled for an inspection time during the excavation of the UST. Mr.Dennis Catanyag <br /> ' of the SJCEHD and Mr.Pat.Vargas of the TFD performed an inspection during the UST removal. The <br /> TFD and SJCEHD Permits are included in Appendix A. <br /> MACTEC collected excavation confirmation soil samples as part of a soil assessment to determine the <br /> presence or absence of impacted soil. MACTEC referenced the California Tri-Regional Board Staff <br /> Recommendations for Preliminary Evaluation and Investigations of Underground Storage Tank Sites for <br /> ' sampling protocol and required analyses. Soil samples were collected at the direction of the SJCEHD <br /> from directly under the UST at each end and in the middle of the excavation; below a piping joint; and <br /> from two excavation soil stockpiles. The six soil samples were analyzed for the following compounds: <br /> • Total petroleum hydrocarbons(TPH)as gasoline(g),diesel(d), and motor oil(mo)using EPA Test <br /> ' Method 8015M; <br /> t • Total recoverable petroleum hydrocarbons(TRPH)using EPA Test Method(418.1); <br /> • CAM 17 Metals using EPA Test Method 6000/7000 Series; <br /> ' • Volatile organic compounds(VOCs)using EPA Test Method 8260; and <br /> ' • Semi-volatile organic compounds(SVOCs)using EPA Test Method 8270. <br /> ' 3.2 UST System Removal Activities <br /> Prior to beginning UST system removal activities,the Underground Service Alert(USA)North <br /> performed a utility locate in the general vicinity of the site. In addition,a MACTEC geophysicist <br /> screened the UST area for subsurface utilities using geophysical techniques. MACTEC also prepared a <br /> ' site-specific health and safety plan for use during UST system removal activities and conducted an on-site <br /> health and safety meeting with Three Kings personnel. <br /> 3 MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc. <br />
