Underground Storage Tank Systoemoval and Assessment is
Sears Unit#0555, Tracy, California
2.0 SITE DESCRIPTION
2.1 Physical Description
' At the time of field activities, the Sears Orchard Supply Hardware operated a warehouse at 2650 North
MacArthur Drive in Tracy, California(Figure 1). MACTEC was contracted to oversee the removal of
' active 750-gallon UST located at the north side of the Orchard Supply facility. A facility map including
the UST location is provided in Figure 2.
Reportedly installed in the 1980's,the UST was used to store waste oil generated at the facility and was
' accessed by a remote fill port located within the warehouse building. Specifications for the removed UST
are as follows.
' . Capacity: 750 gallons
. Dimensions: 4-foot diameter by 8-foot length
. Protection: Fiberglass
' . Orientation: North to south
. Depth: Bottom of the UST approximately 9 feet below the ground surface (bgs)
' A steel waste oil distribution line existed between the UST and a pump inside the warehouse where the
waste oil was generated, and a vent line led from the UST to the warehouse building. At the time of the
' UST removal, the pump was operational but not in use. The UST location and orientation is included in
Figure 3.
' 2.2 Local Hydrogeologic and Subsurface Conditions
' An examination of soils removed during the excavation of the UST indicated the native lithology
consisted predominantly of dry to moist, soft, dark grayish brown lean clay and dry, loose, dark brown
' clayey gravel with sand. The fill surrounding the UST was mainly dry, loose, dark brown clayey gravel
with sand. Groundwater was not encountered during excavation of the UST. The site, situated
' approximately 30 feet above mean sea level, has a local geology characterized by flood basin deposits.
1
2 MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc.
1
