There
is the potential for exposure to overhead o§jects and electrical conductors necessitating the use
of hard hats. There is a potential for skin abrasions to the hands and appropriate work gloves
Will be available for use. Gasoline and waste petroleum products may cause skin initiation and
the hands are more frequently exposed. When anticipated, barrier gloves should be worn.
fNedical SurvelHence
Since the health hazard is considered as airritant alutla asphyxiant medical surveillance is
deemed unnecessary for the short-term du ion of this project. Acute affects are of primary
concern.
Air Monitoring
A confined space air monitoring instrument+will be made available at the site during times when
foreseeable contaminated soil or containers are being handled, The instrument shall be
designed to monitor for oxygen defidency, explosive vapors, and preferably hydrogen sulfide.
mnt
The instrueshall be used according to the manufacturer's instructions, including calibration.
The Site Safety and Health Supervisor, or tither trained and authorized employee. shall monitor
prior to an employee entering any vessel orexcavation more than 4 ft. in depth.
Psrmbsible Expasare Lavefs
The permissible exposure levels(PEL) for gasoline is 300 pelts per million (ppm)and 900
milligrams per cubic meter(mg/M') of air. The short-term exposure limit is 500 ppm and 1,500
Regulations requiro the workplace monitonrig whenever it is reasonable to suspect that
employees may be exposed to concentrations of airborne contaminants exceeding the PEL.
Similar projects have not resulted in exposures exceeding the PEL. It is deemed unnecessary
to monitor relative to the PEL by breathing 2iolte badge or sampling pump.
0dwb r 7, 1890 nage 2
