During sampling efforts, the sampler will be decontaminated prior to collection of each
sample as follows: a water rinse, a detergent scrubbing, a methanol rinse and a final water
rinse. The brass sleeve will be precleaned by the supplier.
Upon collection, the soil samples will be removed from the sampler, and sample tube ends
will be immediately sealed with aluminum foil and plastic end caps to prevent the loss of
volatile compounds. The sample tubes will be labeled, enclosed in plastic bags and stored in
a refrigerated ice chest. Samples will be delivered by courier to a DOHS certified laboratory
for analysis.
5 ro it"42/w —
Review of state and county records in addition to previous on site investigation reveals that
the water table should be located between 50 and 80 feet below ground level. Because the
old and new UST excavations will be 10-20 feet deep, it is unlikely that groundwater will be
encountered. However, if groundwater is present, soil samples will be collected from the
excavation walls at the soil water interface. A sample of groundwater will also be collected
using a Voss Technologies disposable bailer suspended by a new nylon cord. Sample bottles
will be filled directly from the bailer. No headspace will be left in the bottles.
5.3 Chemical Analyses
Samples will be analyzed selectively for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) as gasoline
and diesel, benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and xylene (BTEX) by EPA Methods 5030, 3550
and 8020, respectively, and for total lead by 7420 and EDB by 8240.
5.4 Soil Disposal
Composite soil samples (1/20 y&) would be collected from the ensuing soil stockpile.
Sample analyses would include CAM 17 TMC metals and total oil and grease by EPA
methods 6010/7000 and 5520 (D&E) in addition to the analyses delineated in Section 5.3. If
analytical results reveal that the soils can be classified as non-hazardous, and the
concentrations of gasoline and diesel are below 1000 ppm and 30,000 ppm respectively, then
soils will be transported by Eight Ball Trucking to the REMCO - Port Costa cement kilns for
incineration. Copies of all REMCO literature are attached as Appendix E.
MA/8.12.91/ENG/9284 1M 6
