Decontamination will be performed in the contamination reduction
zone which shall be contiguous to the exclusion zone . The
decontamination zone will be established at the perimeter of the
regulated area. Personnel entering or leaving the exclusion zone
will pass through this area in order to prevent any cross
' contamination and for the purpose of accountability. Tools and
any equipment or machinery will be decontaminated in a specified
location. Personnel decontamination includes removal of
protective outer garments and respiratory protection will be
performed in the contamination zone.
' The support zone will consist of all areas of the work area
beyond the contamination reduction and exclusion zones . The
support zone will be defined, to the extent feasibility, to
prevent employees and the public from being exposed to any
organic vapors or dust above environmental levels .
Access
' Access to contaminated work areas (Work and Contamination
Reduction Zones) shall be regulated and limited to authorized
persons . Visitors to the site shall abide by the following:
' All visitors shall be instructed to stay outside the
work zone and remain within the clean zone during the
extent of their stay. Visitors shall be cautioned to
avoid skin contact with contaminated or suspected
' contaminated surfaces . During visitation, hand-to-
mouth transfers should be reduced with special
precautions not to eat, drink, smoke, or chew gum or
' tobacco. The use of alcohol or medicine in the
container zones is prohibited.
' Visitors requesting to observe work conducted in the
exclusion zone must wear all appropriate personnel
protective devices before entering the contaminated
zone. Visitors will be required to sign in and out of
' the job site . If respiratory protective devices are
necessary, visitors who wish to enter the contaminated
zone must produce evidence that they have had a
' complete physical examination and respiratory
protection training, including respiratory fitting,
within the past 12 months . Visitor must provide their
' own respiratory protection. The wearer must pass a
qualitative fit test before entry will be permitted.
A-20
MA:ENG:9262-AppA/041291
