UST Closure Report
ABF Freight System,Inc.
Manteca,California Page 6
• 4.3 Sampling Equipment Decontamination
All sampling equipment and tools that came in contact with sample media were decontaminated
by washing with water containing Alconox detergent, followed with a deionized water rinse, and
second deionized water rinse. All rinsate water generated during the sampling equipment
decontamination activities was disposed to the sanitary sewer.
5.0 RESULTS OF CHEMICAL ANALYSES
5.1 Soil
The soil samples were analyzed for TPH-D (total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel) and BTEX
(benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes). All soil samples analyzed yielded non-detectable
levels of BTEX. THP-D levels were found to range from <5.0 to 220 mg/kg. Copies of the
analytical reports are presented in Appendix 3. Analytical results for soil samples collected from
the excavation area are presented in the following table.
Table 1
Soil Sample Analytical Results
Sample Date TPH-D Benzene Toluene Ethylbenzene Xylenes
Identification Sampled (mg/kg) (mg/kg) (mg/kg) (mg/kg) (mg/kg)
Tl-NW-10'4" 3/20/98 <0.5 <0.005 <0.005 <0.005 <0.010
TI-SE-10'4"#2 3/20/98 <0.5 <0.005 <0.005 <0.005 <0.010
D14' 3/20/98 <0.5 <0.005 <0.005 <0.005 <0.010
SP1-S 3/20/98 220 <0.005 <0.005 <0.005 <0.010
SP 1-N 3/20/98 35 <0.005 <0.005 <0.005 <0.010
mg/kg milligrams per kilogram
5.2 Groundwater
The groundwater samples were also analyzed for TPH-D and BTEX. One sample analyzed
yielded non-detectable levels of BTEX. The other sample was found to contain from 2 to 27
µg/L of BTEX. THP-D levels were found to range from 41 to 53 mg/L in both samples. Copies
of the analytical reports are presented in Appendix 3.
