SIERRA-PACIFIC GROUP
Geologists+Engineers s Scientists+Compliance Specialists
July 9,2001
Amy Terrell 01 JUZ 10
A"110: 48
California Regional Water Quality Control Board
3443 Routier Road, Suite A
Sacramento, California 95827-3098
Subject: Analytical Test Results From A Soil Sample Collected at Soil Boring MW-18,Former PureGro
Facility, 1905 North Broadway Avenue, Stockton, California: Sierra-Pacific Project No. 94-
055.02
Dear Ms. Terrell:
On May 30,2001,while advancing an 8.25-inch hollow-stem auger soil boring in the southwest corner of the Western
Farm Service facility at 1905 North Broadway Avenue, Stockton, Sierra-Pacific Group (Sierra-Pacific) observed
reddish-brown stains within a few feet of the surface. Uncertain as to the nature and composition of the reddish-
brown substance, Sierra-Pacific stopped the drilling, and grouted the open hole with neat cement. The boring was
terminated at about 45 feet below ground surface(bgs), above the capillary fringe.
On 31 May 2001, Sierra-Pacific submitted a sample of the red-stained soil from MW-18 to Sequoia Analytical
(Sequoia) for chemical analysis on a 48-hour turn-around. We subsequently informed you and Michael Infurna of
San Joaquin County of the situation. The MW-18 soil sample was tested for agricultural fumigants (DBCP and
EDB), volatile petroleum hydrocarbons, and Title 22 metals.
Sierra-Pacific received the analytical test results from Sequoia on 15 June 2001. No DBCP, EDB, or volatile
hydrocarbons were detected in the soil sample. Title 22 metals were within acceptable limits. I called you regarding
the results of the testing and rescheduled the drilling. Nested monitoring wells MW-18A/B were subsequently
installed on 25 June 2001. The new wells were developed on 29 June 2001. The laboratory test results are enclosed.
Please call if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
SIERRA-PACIFIC GROUP
hn ep on Ra D, C.E.G. 1133
Senior Engineering Geologist
JSR/dk
c: Michael Infurna, San Joaquin County
W.T.Nickerson,Unocal
Enclosures
4911 Windplay Drive,Suite 4
El Dorado Hills,CA 95762 E-Mail:mail@www.siema-pacifiegroup.com Phone:(916)933-1468
Fax:(916)933-3197
