6.0 PHASE II FIELD INVESTIGATION RESULTS
Soil samples at the 5-foot and 15-foot depths from borings B1 through B7 were analyzed for
petroleum hydrocarbons such as TRPH, TPH, VOCs and SVOCs. The 10-foot sample from
boring 131 was additionally analyzed for SVOCs, in particular for phenol. Soil samples from
hand auger borings HAI and HA2 were analyzed for SVOCs to detect the presence of
phenol and bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate.
The results of the Phase II field investigation at 1888 Lockheed Court indicated that no
petroleum hydrocarbons and other organic compounds associated with the airplane wash
clarifier effluents were detected in the soil. Phenol and bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate were
detected at 5 feet bgs in boring B1 near the car wash clarifier at concentrations of 0.56 and
0.44 mg/kg, respectively. Phenol and bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate were not detected at 5 feet
bgs in borings HAI and HA2 near boring B1 in the vicinity of the car wash clarifier.
7.0 FINDINGS
The Phase II Investigation did not detect any petroleum hydrocarbons and organic
compounds in the soil in the immediate area of the airplane wash clarifier. Phenol and
bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate were detected in one soil boring (131) near the car wash clarifier
at concentrations of 0.56 and 0.44 mg/kg, respectively, at a depth of 5 feet bgs. These
analytes were not detected in hand augered soil borings HAI and HA2 which were placed
near soil boring 131 to further investigate the occurrence of these analytes in boring B1. The
phenol and bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate detected in boring B1 at 5 feet bgs appears to be
localized and very limited in extent since they were not detected at the 10-foot depth in the
same boring nor in the two (2)borings HAI and HA2, each approximately 5 feet away from
boring Bl.
The clarifiers are no longer in use and were found to be empty. The facility has no plans
to reactivate the clarifiers.
8.0 CONCLUSIONS
Based on the findings of the Phase II Environmental Assessment and Subsurface
Investigation conducted by CRC, phenol and bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate were detected in one
boring (131) at a shallow depth (5 feet) near the car wash clarifier. The occurrence of these
analytes in boring B1 appears to be localized and very limited in extent.
9.0 RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on the above findings and conclusions, CRC recommends that no further investigation
of the clarifiers on the subject property is warranted at this time. CRC further recommends
that a copy of this report be submitted to the San Joaquin County Department of
Environmental Health Services for review.
CRC Environmental Risk Management,Inc.
