Section Number: 2-1 <br />Issue Date: 05/06/2010 <br />Revision Date: <br />Page 9 of 16 <br />2-4 LIQUID CHEMICAL & FUEL STORAGE <br />Overview <br />Applicable guidelines to install and maintain above ground tanks for liquid chemical <br />storage. <br />Key Points <br />All chemical tanks must be properly labeled and made of chemical resistant tank <br />materials. <br />Tank Installation Guidelines <br />• Label all chemical tanks; drums; containers; and transfer pipe lines. <br />• Tank Materials must be chemical resistant. Compatible materials include cross <br />linked polyethylene and stainless steel. <br />• When applicable, install collision protection devices. <br />• Secondary containment volume for spill control should provide 110% of the largest <br />tank volume. <br />• Tanks that are used to store flammable liquid must meet applicable local building <br />and fire codes. <br />Chemical Storage Guidelines <br />• Use Ecolab's Chemical Compatibility Chart to ensure that compatible liquid <br />chemicals are stored within the same secondary containment. <br />• Do not store Bleach with Sour within the same secondary containment. <br />Additional Information <br />If you need more detailed information on the proper sizing and installation of chemical <br />and fuel storage tanks contact Operations Support at (630) 271-2988. <br />
