f T
%./
Soil samples were collected with a metric soil sampler loaded with
two clean, 2 X 3-inch brass tubes. The ends of the tubes were
covered with aluminum sheets, capped and sealed with tape. The
samples were labeled, logged on a chain of custody and stored on
ice pending transport to a Sparger Laboratories in Sacramento.
The eight samples collected from the stockpiled soil were
composited at a ratio of 2 : 1 for analysis. All samples were
analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH as gasoline) ,
volatile aromatics (BTE&X) and total lead in accordance with EPA
methods 8015m, 8020 and 6010 respectively.
4.0 FINDINGS
No petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in any of the samples
collected from the excavation or stockpiled soil (Table 1) . Low
concentrations of lead were detected in most of the samples, but
only sample (SP 5-6) contained concentrations above the normal
background level of 7-10 ppm for this area. This sample was
reanalyzed using the WET lead test with deionized water. Laboratory
results showed a soluble lead concentration (STLC) of 0. 33 ppm,
well below the hazardous waste level of 5. 0 ppm. The laboratory
-' report and chain-of-custody are included in Appendix A.
5. 0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
No significant levels of contamination were detected in either the
excavation or the stockpiled soil. We recommend that the excavation
be backfilled with the stockpiled soil and the site be closed.
6.0 LIMITATIONS
Our professional services were performed using. that degree of care
and skill ordinarily exercised by environmental consultants
practicing in this or similar localities. The findings were mainly
based on analytical results provided by an independent laboratory.
No other warranty, expressed or implied, is made as to the
professional recommendations contained in this report.
The opportunity to prepare this report is greatly appreciated.
Please contact our office if you have any questions or comments.
f
2
