1207 S. Aurora
Page 2
determined by the lithology encountered during the drilling of the borings, possibly beginning at 45
feet bsg. It is recommended that this screen not cross different lithological units. The remaining
four wells may be completed as single, shallow monitoring wells which will encounter first water.
PHS/EHD recommends that the screen interval be from 25 feet bsg to 45 feet bsg. The selection
of 25 feet bsg for the beginning of the well screen is based on groundwater levels at a nearby site
on Charter Way most recently being measured at approximately'31 feet bsg, and may be modified
after observation of actual field conditions once work has begun.1s
To set monitoring wells the bore holes will be back-filled with either neat cement or bentonite
slurry made for grout. Bentonite chips are not accepted for back-fill in San Joaquin County.
Following development of the monitoring wells, groundwater samples will be collected by standard
methods. The groundwater samples will be analyzed for TPHg and TPHd by EPA method 8015,
BTEX by EPA method 8020, and oxygenates by EPA method 8260, as per the California Regional
Water Quality Control Board guidelines (enclosed).
Please submit an addendum to the work plan incorporating the above requested modifications to
PHSIEHD by October 30, 1998.
Please note that all field work shall be witnessed by PHSIEHD staff. Forty eight hours notification
is required prior to scheduling field work. If you have any questions or comments call Lori Duncan
at(209)468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Department
Lori Duncan, REHS Margare agorio, REH
Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor, Unit IV
enclosure
f
cc: Mark List, CVRWQCB
Claus Englehardt,AquaGeosciences
Pieter Crosby, PC Toxics
I
