(JJW) on behalf of the above referenced site and
has the following comments.
The report documents the routine quarterly groundwater-monitoring event that took place at this site on
February 9, 2000. Results of the analyses of the collected water samples were consistent with the results
from prior monitoring events, showing that significant petroleum hydrocarbon contamination to
groundwater remains in the areas of the former tank pits, and that its extent has not been defined.
The report recommends installing additional shallow groundwater monitoring wells in the down-gradient
direction, and deep groundwater monitoring wells to determine the vertical extent of the contaminant
plume. The report also recommends discontinuing monitoring for chlorinated solvents.
In May 2000 JJW submitted a work plan for additional investigative work at this site. In correspondence
dated May 31, 2000 PHSIEHD requested that an addendum to the work plan be submitted to PHSIEHD
by June 16, 2000 to address specific issues that were detailed. To date no addendum has been
submitted to this office. Please submit the requested addendum by August 4, 2000.
Quarterly groundwater monitoring should continue at this site until further notified by PHSIEHD, and the
report of findings documenting the event should be submitted to PHSIEHD within 60 days following the
event. Analyses should continue for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gas and diesel, benzene, toluene,
ethyl benzene and xylene, seven fuels oxygenates, 1,2-DCA and EDB. Please note that there are some
DHS certified analytical labs that are capable of running a complete suite of petroleum constituents and
fuel additives by EPA Method 826013, thereby saving considerable cost. If you have any questions or
comments please call Lori Duncan at(209)468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
L-E1-L^ GC -
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Margaret agorio, REHS
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor, Unit IV
cc: Marty Hartzell, CVRWQCB
Mark Jerpbak, JJW
Pieter Crosby, PC Toxics
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
