ire r ti
operation and maintenance (O&M) costs for this technology are low relative to
O&M costs for other remedial technologies.
Similar to biodegradation augmentation, there are no empirical pilot test
g p p s to
evaluate the effectiveness of ozone injection. Actual field tests must be
conducted and evaluated over a period of approximately one to two months.
Given the documented high success rates and fairly rapid contaminant
r degradation of this method, this treatment option is proposed to be evaluated.
I
Natural Biodegradation.
At some point, most treatment systems reach asymptotic levels, whereby
continued operation results in very little, if any, remediation. At this point, the cost
of remediation is no longer commensurate with, the benefits achieved. When
asymptotic levels become apparent, active remediation is typically terminated, and
natural biodegradation specified to accomplish subsequent remediation.
Past-remediation monitoring is generally conducted to monitor and evaluate
natural biodegradation. Following adequate post-remediation monitoring, "low-
risk" site-closure can oftentimes be considered. Natural biodegradation will be
pursued for this site following sufficient operation of an "active"treatment system.
4.0 EVALUATION OF REMEDIAL OPTIONS
In general, five treatment options appear to be applicable to the JC Trucking site. Three
of the five options are "active", in other words, they consist of a system which actively
operates (and thus requires system O&M). The five remedial options are evaluated
below in Table 1.
j
i
E 1
i
JJW GEOSCIENCES Inc.
