MONITORING AND REPORTING eROGRAM 00- -4-
CLASS II SURFACE IMPOUNDMENT
THE BURLINGTON NORTHER AND SANTA FE RAILWAY CO .
STOCKTON INTERMODAL FACILITY
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
the groundwater monitoring network will consists of one upgradient background monitoring well and
two monitoring wells located at the downgradient edge of the surface impoundment and one monitoring
well located downgradient from the oil water separator. Board staff must approve monitoring well
location and construction details prior to well installation.
Groundwater elevation shall be measured quarterly in all monitoring wells at the facility. Groundwater
elevations shall be plotted to produce a groundwater contour map .
Each monitoring well shall be purged three times its well volume or until dry prior to sampling. Metal
analysis shall be reported as dissolved (filter) . The Discharger is required to perform sampling, analysis ,
and observations according to the schedule in Table 3 .
Table 3 - Groundwater Monitoring
Parameters Units FrequencX
Field Parameter
Groundwater Elevation Ft. , & hundredths , MSL Quarterly
Temperature °C Semi-Annually
Specific Conductance umhos/cm Semi-Annually
pH pH number Semi-Annually
Monitoring Parameters
mg/L Semi-Annually
Total Dissolved Solids mg/L Semi-Annually
Chemical Oxygen Demand mg/L Semi-Annually
TPH-diesel mg/L Semi-Annually
TPH-oil & grease ug/L Semi-Annually
Volatile Organic Compounds
(EPA Method 8260, see Attachment C) mg/L Semi-Annually
Chloride mg/L Semi-Annually
Sulfate mg/L Semi-Annually
Nitrate - Nitrogen mg/L Semi-Annually
Dissolved Metals (Barium, Copper, Lead, mg/L Semi-Annually
& Zinc)
4 . Vadose Zone Monitoring
The. vadose zone monitoring system (VZMS) consists of a geonet drainage layer under the entire area of
the surface impoundment . The VZMS sump shall be inspected quarterly for leachate . In any quarter in
which leachate is detected in the VZMS sump grab samples shall be collected and analyzed for the
parameters in Table 4 .
i
'I
