u
property is Landlow adobe clay, which is described as dark
grayish brown in color, neutral to calcareous, with good to
imperfect drainage. The storie index is .39, indicative of a soil
type poorly suited for agricultural use.
Lithologies encountered during excavation consisted of about 2 to
3 feet of black, organic peaty loam on top, grading to a tan to
buff colored sandy clay, (Landlow. )
DEPTH TO GROUNDWATER: A review of County Flood Control District
maps indicated that the water table was the highest in the spring
of 1986. Plate IV is a portion of that map, which shows that the
-20 ' contour passes almost directly under the property. The USGS-
topographic map indicates that ground elevation at the site is
about 25' sea level datum. Therefore, the water table would have
been at approximately 45 feet below ground level in the Spring of
1986.
HISTORY OF SITE: The property has been used exclusively for the
sale, service, and repair of mobile homes since the present
occupant leased the property in 1972. The UST was installed in
1972, and used for fueling various vehicles associated with the
business.
DETAILS OF PRIOR WORK:
Tank Removal :
On January 22, 1992, Jim Thorpe Oil Inc. made application to the
County EHD for removal of one (i) 1 ,000 gallon UST, ID# 255-01 ,
which had contained regular leaded and unleaded gasoline; refer
to Exhibit A for those documents. On January 31 , the tank was
removed by the above firm; it was reported to be in good
condition and free from holes caused by corrosion. After the
tank was pulled, some discoloration of soil was noted at the
east, (fill ) end on the wall of the excavation. Soil samples
were taken at a depth of 8 feet from the west end of the pit, and
at 10 feet from the east end as directed by a representative of
the EHD. Neither sample showed any evidence of discoloration,
and no petroleum odors were noted. A sample was taken from a
portion of the removed spoil which showed evidence of
discoloration and had a hydrocarbon odor. The spoil was stored
on plastic adjacent to the excavation awaiting results of the
laboratory analysis. The removed tank was properly cleaned and
transported to a disposal facility; refer to Exhibit C for copies
of the appropriate documents.
y The soil samples were transported under proper chain-of-custody
2
lJ
