GROUNDWATER TECHNOLOGY, INC. <br /> EXCAVATION AND TRENCHING POLICY - CALIFORNIA <br /> SAFE CODE OF PRACTICES <br /> Although many of the rules and regulations pertaining to excavation and trenching <br /> operations in the State of Califomia closely parallel Federal Standards, this policy <br /> specifically pertains to California operations. <br /> it shall be the policy of Groundwater Technology, Inc. to ensure that all <br /> Groundwater Technology employees and subcontractors comply with the provisions <br /> within the California Code of Regulations, Title 8, Chapter 4, Subchapter 4 - Construction <br /> Safety Orders. <br /> It is inevitable that remediation procedures for which Groundwater Technology is <br /> retained will involve some aspect within the jurisdiction of the Construction Safety Orders- <br /> Such operations may include: trenching,vault construction,tank removal,and excavation <br /> of contaminated soils. <br /> DEFINITIONS - EXCAVATION, TRENCHES, EARTHWORK <br /> Mok- a mass of soil rising above a digging level. <br /> Bell Hole - an additional excavation made into the sides or bottom of a trench to provide <br /> additional work space. <br /> Belled Excavation - a part of a shaft or footing excavation, usually near the bottom and <br /> bell-shaped, that makes the cross-sectional area at that point larger than that above. <br /> Benching - a method of excavation whereby the faces of an excavation or trench are <br /> widened progressively outward with respect to the bottom of a specific series of horizontal <br /> and vertical cuts to provide protection against the hazard of moving ground. <br /> Ex&TRNCH"L/MG #E2 <br />
