The Workplan proposed the
destruction of forty two (42) monitoring (MWs) and remediation (EWs or groundwater
extraction) wells per extensive discussions concerning well destruction methods with
the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department and with their written
approval for the methods listed below. All wells will first have the well completions
remove to expose the casings. Wells MW-3B, MW-3C, MW-4C, MW-6B, MW-6C,
MW-7B, MW-813, MW-20B, WE-BB, and EW-9B will be destroyed by over-drilled to total
depth and tremie grouting to surface. Wells MW-1, MW-2, MW-3A, MW-513, MW-8A,
MW-9B, MW-9C, MW-9D, MW-10A, MW-10B, MW-10C, MW-10D, MW-11B, MW-12A,
MW-13A, MW-13B, MW-19A, MW-19B, EW-1 through EW-5, EW-6A, EW-7A, EW-713,
and EW-10A will be pressure grouted to surface. Wells MW-4A, MW-7A, and MW-20A
will first attempt to have the casing and cement grout pulled out and removed as one
intact unit and if successful, grouted to surface; however, if pulling out the wells casing
and cement grout as one intact unit is not entirely successful, the well(s) will be over-
drilled to total depth and grouted to surface. A well destruction report will be submitted.
The Workplan is approved. Since there was no schedule for the work as directed in my
30 January 2012 letter, you will have until 2 November 2012 to submit a well
destruction report, or until 20 August 2012 to provide a rational for an extension with a
schedule if unable to meet the 2 November 2012 deadline. Please give the SJCEHD
and myself at least three working days' notice prior to initiating fieldwork.
