The Report
states groundwater was sampled on 27 December 2010; however, monitoring wells MW-9B,
g event.
MW-9C, and MW-9D were inadvertently not sampled during the
13abgsnithenmon monitoring
Depth to water varied from 11 feet below ground surface 0 ft
)
wells. Groundwater flow direction varied from east at 0.003 ft/ft gradient to radially inward
towards the groundwater extraction wells EW-6A and EW 7A in Zone A, and east-southeast at
0.001 to 0.003 ft/ft gradient in Zone B. Maximum groundwater concentration in MW 8A was
methyl tett butyl ether (MTBE), 140 micrograms per Liter (ug/L); however, MW-6B located in
Star Street (next to EW-8B) increased from non-detect in November 2009 to MTBE, 93 ug/L.
The groundwater extraction treatment system (GWETS) treated approximately 2,823,500
gallons of extracted groundwater and removed 0.5 pounds of MTBE during the fourth quarter
of 2010 under Regional Water Quality Control Board — Central Valley Region, General Order
No. R5-2008-0085, Waste Discharge Requirements for Discharge to Surface Waters of
Groundwater from Cleanup of Petroleum Fuel Pollution (R5-2008-0085). Influent GWETS
concentrations have declined to non-detect (<0.5 ug/L) for MTBE, while operating extraction
petroleum
well concentrations have dropped to a maximum 23 ug/L for MTBE (EW-6A).
Total hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes were not
detected in the influent treatment system sample collected on 29 November 2010. Receiving
waters bioassays for R5-2008-0085 reported a 98% Fathead minnow survival for acute
analysis, and a 100% survival (3 species) for chronic analysis. The Report recommends:
• Continue quarterly water level measurements for all monitoring wells,
• Reduce the semi-annually monitoring event to annual, since semi-annual sampling of wells
EW-4 and EW-5 is not cost effective,
• Evaluate the monitoring program annually, (with latest
Continue operation of the GWETS using the following extraction 9/and EW ggMTBE
• concentrations): EW-6A (23 ug/L), EW-7A (7.1 ug/L),
(21 ug/L),
• Continue
samplesfor
collection
R5-2008-0085 013 analysise and MTBE analysis of MID1 , MID- ,
and effluent
California Environmental Protection Agency
ORecycled Paper
