PHS/EHD has
the following comments for your consideration.
li
The work plan proposed the installation of an additional monitoring well, MW5, to
replace the destroyed MW2 and MW3 to ascertain groundikater gradient and to
11
further investigate residual soil contamination evidenced in 1 soil samples BH31 and
S132. The work plan indicated that only two soil samples would be submitted for
:' ifted for analysis since
laboratory analysis. Additional soil samples should be submitted
sidewall samples were not collected during the 1986 excavation and soil
contamination was detected at 20 and 50 feet (not atJ55') in the soil samples
submitted from SB2. This soil boring/monitoring well ,will serve several purposes;
therefore, it is essential that sufficient information is obtain el'd to assess the residual
soil contamination and groundwater quality. As resid6al soil il contamination exists, an
evaluation of the threat to groundwater that the contamination poses is necessary.
Please consider analysis to establish site specific lith6logical information that can be
used to evaluate the environmental fate of the residua" I contamination.
Groundwater samples have not been obtained from MW1 since August 1992. MW1
is constructed with the screened interval from 30 to 55
5 feet below ground surface.
Groundwater samples have not been obtained from MW4 since January 1993. MW4
is constructed with the screened interval from 50 to 76 feet below ground surface. As
you know the groundwater table has risen in the lastcouple of years and it is likely
that MW1 contains sufficient groundwater to sample. 11I
Enclosed is permit #010429 issued to Woodward Drilling. Please contact me at least
two working days prior to implementing the work planj so that site inspections can be
scheduled. Also, following the completion of the investigation, you must contact me
to discuss which soil samples will be submitted for laboratory analysis.
A Division of San Joaquin Countv Health Care Services
