Jack Fiori we►ss ASSWIATEs
27 May 1987 8
prior to drilling each new boring and the drive sampler was washed between
samples.
- During the drilling of MW-1 soil samples from 10 ft, 15 ft, 27.5 ft, 31.0
ft and 40.5 ft were analyzed in the field using a portable Organic Vapor
- Analyzer (OVA) to determine if volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were
present. The OVA readings were below the meter's detection limit of 0.2 ppm.
Soil samples from wells MW-2 and MW-3 were not analyzed by the OVA since
neither the drive samples nor the cuttings emitted any observable odors.
Chemical analysis of a soil sample collected from 41.3 ft in MW-2 yielded
results below detection. Table 2 lists all results for field and laboratory
analysis for this phase of work.
-- Boreholes MW-1, MW-2, and MW-3 were drilled in alluvial deposits
consisting of silty sands and clean sands of moderate to high estimated
permeability with interbedded clays and s!lts of low estimated permeability.
Minor lithologic variations occurred in each boring, but the lithology appears
to be correlative across the site. Ground wator was encountered at
approximately 40 ft below the ground surface during drilling and four-inch
diameter monitoring wells were constructed in the three boreholes on 17, 18
and 19 December. The wells were screened in the moderate to high permeability
sediments. The top of the screened interval was placed 10 ft above ,first
water at the request of SJLHD to allow for seasonal fluctuations.
WELL DEVELOPMENT
r ,
,M Wells MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3 were developed on 30 January 1987 using an
airlift system. Approximately 425 gallons were evacuated and discharged into
a 20-yard plastic-lined dumpster for temporary storage. The flow rate for
MW-1 using airlift techniques is approximately 2.5 gallons per minute (gpm).
►.. Wells MW-2 and MW-3 were developed using a surge block, water injection and a
submersible pump as well as an airlift system. The estimated flow rates for
wells MW-2 and MW-3 are .3 gpm and .25 gpm, respectively. The actual flow.,
rates calculated during development are much lower than expected for thz
formation materials. Auger drilling may have smeared some of the formations
ti
