k9 KLEINFELDER
The possibility exists that hand angering and hand sampling techniques may not be successful
due to hardpan soil, gravel, bedrock or peat and that different sampling methods will need to be
evaluated. The actual sampling locations will be dependent on access, surface conditions, and
potential interference with subsurface utilities. The following details the sampling plan and
analyses for the steam clean area, chemical storage area, an I pond areas of the subject site.
Steam Clean Area
A total of 24 discrete samples will be collected from 12 shallow hand auger borings around the
perimeter of the steam clean area and along a storm drain pipe connected to the steam clean area.
Two discrete samples will be collected at each of the borin locations at depths of approximately
18 and 24-inches bgs. Eight of the shallow discrete samples will be composited into two 4-point
composite samples. One of the composite subset samples will be collected along the northern
perimeter of the steam clean area and one subset will be collected along the storm drain route.
Three of the shallow discrete soil samples will be collected along the southern perimeter of the
steam clean area in proximity to a sump like structure and one discrete shallow soil sample will
be collected near a presumed storm drain junction box.
The shallow soil samples (18-inch depth) including the two composite samples and four discrete
soil samples will be analyzed for the following analyses:
• Total Threshold Limit Concentrations (TTLCs) of California Assessment Manual (CAM-17)
metals by EPA Methods;
• Total Purgeable Petroleum Hydrocarbons as referenced to gasoline [TPH-G] and Benzene
Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Total Xylenes [BTEX] by EPAIMethod 8015M/8020;
• Total Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons as referenced to Diesel and Motor Oil [TPH-
D/MO] by EPA Method 8015M/3015;
• Chlorinated Herbicides by EPA Method 8151;
• Organophosphate Pesticides by EPA Method 8141;
• Organochlorine Pesticides by EPA Method 8081.
The deeper samples from each boring will be put on hold ending the results of the shallow soil
samples.
Chemical Storage Area
Six shallow hand auger borings will be advanced beneath the chemical storage area. Three soil
samples will be collected at each location at depths of 0 to 12-inches, 18 to 24 and 24 to 36-
inches bgs. Each of the shallow two discrete soil samples from each boring will be composited
into a 2-
,point composite and analyzed for the following:
• Organophosphate Pesticides by EPA Method 8141
The deeper 24 to 36-inch samples collected at each boring location will be put on hold pending
the results of the shallow soil samples.
02001PROP.ENV/ST03P327 - Page 3 of 11
©2003 Kleinfelder,Inc.
