CHEMICAL HAZARDS Ouv <br /> Potential hazards generally associated with chemical contamination identified at the <br /> project site reside in the soil and groundwater in areas where products were previously <br /> ' handled and are suspect primarily in the seven areas designated for excavation. The <br /> affected soils, and/or groundwater, if present, include exposure through the following <br /> routes: (1) skin or eye contact resulting in skin damage and in some cases, dermal <br /> absorption; (2)inhalation of chemical vapors, dust or gases; and, (3) ingestion of <br /> chemicals. A list of chemicals and the exposure pathways and health effects anticipated <br /> to be encountered on site is included in Appendix B. <br /> To minimize the potential for exposure to chemical contaminants,personal protective <br /> equipment as specified in this plan must be worn. Site control measures will also be <br /> ' taken to minimize exposures and to provide for contingency measures. <br /> 4.2. PHYSICAL HAZARDS <br /> The following sections describe potential physical health and safety hazards associated <br /> with work activities at the site. <br /> 4.2.1. Traffic and Heavy Equipment <br /> Clayton will perform environmental oversight during the soil sampling at the project site. <br /> The activities will involve the use of various types of portable equipment under the direct <br /> control of the subcontractors retained by Clayton. Clayton will observe subcontractor <br /> activities during the use of their equipment during sampling to insure that they comply <br /> with the following safety measures. <br /> Stay at least 20 feet away from moving equipment. If closer than 20 feet: <br /> ➢ Keep equipment in sight at all times. <br /> ' ➢ Inform the operator of your location. <br /> 4.2.2. Underground Utilities Hazards <br /> ' Clayton is responsible for contacting Underground Service Alert(USA). Clayton made <br /> the appropriate notification as required by law prior to digging or drilling. Underground <br /> utilities were marked by USA subscribers prior to commencement of work. Additionally, <br /> it is Clayton's responsibility to contract with a professional underground utility locator to <br /> locate identifiable utilities in all boring, trenching and foundation areas <br /> 4.2.3.
