Report of Results
investigation of Agricultural Chemicals in Soil
PureGro/Brea Facility
1905 North Broadway Ave.,Stockton,CA
Sierra-Pacific Project No.94-055.08
Impact samples were collected and analyzed as described above, in accordance with the procedures in
the approved work plan. Chain-of-custody forms were completed, and the soil samples were transported
in an iced-cooler to Sequoia Analytical Laboratories, Inc,, located in Sacramento, within 24 hours of
collection.
4.6 Abandonment of Soil Borin s Wa to and Rinsate Stgrauge and L)igposal
Upon completion of the soil boring program, each of the open soil borings was tremmie-grouted to the
surface with a bentonite-cement slurry in accordance with State and county-decommissioning policies.
Soil cuttings were placed in 55-gallon Department of Transportation(DOT)-approved drums that are
labeled, dated, and staged at the Broadway Avenue site for disposal. Augers and sampling equipment
were cleaned at the site after use. Rinsates from equipment decontamination were also placed in 55-
gallon DOT drums and staged at the site pending analysis and disposal.
4.7 Laboratory Analysis of Samples
All samples collected were analyzed for NO;-N by EPA method 300.0, and for TKN by EPA method
351.4. Additionally, samples from borings NSB-1,NSB-2, NSB-3, and NSB-4 were also analyzed for
halogenated volatile organic compounds by EPA method 8010. The results of the NO;-N and TKII
analyses are presented in tabular form in Table 1 herein. Values for total nitrogen are also presented in
Table 1 and on Figure 3.
To provide accurate site specific data on the physical properties of the on-site soils for future use in a
risk assessment for this site, three soil samples (NSB-2-20,NSB-5-5, and NSB-6-20) were submitted
to Unocal's contract laboratory, PTS Laboratories, Inc. of Santa Fe Springs, California, for physical
testing. The samples chosen represented the range of soil types encountered during this investigation.
The samples were tested for moisture content by ASTM method D2216, for porosity by API method
RP40, for bulk density by ASTM method 2937, for soil pH by EPA method 9045, for grain size by
ASTM method D4464M, for total organic carbon by the Walkley-Black method, and for permeability
(reported as native state effective permeability to water and native state effective water conductivity) by
ASTM method D5084.
t
i
Sierra-Pacific Groundwater Consultants, Inc. 10
