(AGE). This report was received by this office on
February 24, 1999.
Six underground storage tanks (UST) were removed at the site in August 1989.
Analyses of soil samples taken indicated the existence of petroleum hydrocarbon
contamination in the soil and groundwater with the highest concentration around
UST # 2, 4, and 5 cluster. Six soil borings were drilled and four monitoring wells
were installed by AGE on July 8, 1998 in a preliminary investigation. PHSIEHD
field staff noted strong petroleum hydrocarbon odor in soil samples collected
from soil boring #4 (B-4) (located in the former dispenser area) at 10 feet below
surface grade(bsg), B-5 (20 feet southwest of the dispenser) at 10 feet bsg, and
B-6 (40 feet north of the former USTs) at 10 and 15 feet bsg. Analytical results
of soil samples collected from B-4 at 10 feet bsg were 420 parts per million
(ppm) Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon as Diesel (TPH-d) and 580 ppm Total
Petroleum Hydrocarbon as Gasoline (TPH-g), B-5 at 10 feet were 11 ppm TPH-d
and 1.6 ppm TPH-g, B-6 at 10 feet were 49 ppm TPH-d and 200 ppm TPH-g,
and monitoring well #1 (MW-1) at 10 feet were 200 ppm TPH-d and 330 TPH-g_
Analytical results of the water sample collected for the first quarterly sampling
event on July 15, 1998 from MW-1 was 510 parts per billion (ppb) TPH-d.
Analytical results of the water sample collected from MW-2 (20 feet north-
northwest of the former USTs) were 2,400 ppb TPH-g, 1,600 ppb TPH-d, and
less than 0.5 ppb Benzene. Analytical results of the water sample collected from
the MW-2 on October 16, 1998, rose to 5,800 ppb TPH-g, 3,300 ppb TPH-d,
1,200 ppb Benzene, 52 ppb Toluene, 160 ppb Ethyl-benzene, and 760 ppb
Xylene.
?,Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
