The project corridor will consist of a trench excavation
approximately 1.3 miles adjacent to West Byron Road. The excavation is expected to
reach depths between 11 and 16 feet below ground surface (bgs). During excavation
activities, soil affected by observable dripping oil may be encountered along the project
corridor based on previous borehole observations. The guidelines listed below were
developed to help field personnel further define reusable soil and establish contingency
plans for visually dripping soil and or oil seeps in the trench excavation.
1. Soil encountered in the trench excavation that does not contain observable
petroleum affected soil will be stockpiled adjacent to Byron Road for reuse as
backfill. This soil is likely to be native, silts and clays encountered at estimated
depths between 0 and the bottom of trench (approximate trench depth is estimated
at 11 to 16 feet bgs).
2. Soil with observable contamination (grayish green to black in color), but contains
no observable dripping oil will be considered for two options: a) reuse as backfill
placed within the trench excavation above planned utilities (recommended depth
between 6 and 9 feet bgs); b) stockpiled adjacent to Byron Road to be reused as a
mixing agent for visually dripping soils.
3. Soil that contains observable dripping oil will be mixed within the trench with
clean or affected soil (as described above), transported from the excavation site
and disposed of at Forward Landfill.
3800 Watt Avenue, Suite 290, Sacramento, California 95821 •(916)974-8800•FAX (916)487-6319
Other SA/C Offices:Albuquerque,Colorado Springs,Dayton,Falls Church,Huntsville,Las Vegas,Los Altos,Los Angeles,McLean,Oak Ridge,Odando,San Diego,Seattle,Tucson
