tir, _
13 November 2000
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0481
Page 4 of 10
• Report preparation.
Each of these tasks is described in more detail below.
3.1. PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
Applicable site assessment permits will be obtained from the PHS-EHD. As required by PHS-EHD
permitting, an updated health and safety plan will be prepared in-accordance with Occupational
Safety and Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for
Occupational Safety and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency, 1985). Prior to mobilization, each soil probe location will be clearly marked and
a utility clearance obtained through Underground Service Alert.
3.2. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
Initially, AGE proposes to advance one soil boring in the area that formerly contained the west fuel
dispenser, former waste oil UST, and the product piping rupture to assess the lateral and vertical
-- extent of the petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted soil. The proposed soil boring location is shown on
Figure 2. The proposed soil boring location cannot be situated closer to the center of the area
containing the former west fuel dispenser, former waste oil UST, and the piping rupture due to the
current locations of active gasoline product piping and fuel dispensers at the site. Therefore, the
proposed soil boring will be located as close to the investigation area as site conditions will allow.
The soil boring is proposed to be advanced utilizing hollow-stem auger drilling techniques to a depth
of 60 feet bsg. However, total depth of the boring will be based on field observations and field
screening using an organic vapor monitor(OVM). Soil samples will be collected from the boring
at five-foot intervals beginning at 10 feet bsg to the total depth. Field procedures for advancement
of the soil boring and collection of soil samples were presented in the AGE-prepared,Additional Site
Assessment Work Plan dated 22 February 2000 and approved by PHS-EHD.
Selected soil samples will be analyzed by a State of California Department Health Services (DHS)-
certified laboratory for the following constituents:
• TPH-g and TPH-d by EPA Method 8015 Modified/5030 and 8015 Modified/3550,
respectively;
• BTEX and methyl-tertiary butyl ether(MTBE)by EPA Method 8020;
..r
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
W
