The Workplan was included as
Appendix A in AGE's 9 May 2002 Quarterly Report—First Quarter 2002. The Workplan presents a
scope of work to complete three push probe borings, install five monitoring wells, and one ozone
sparging well.
During the Q1-2002 monitoring and sampling event, AGE identified MtBE in monitoring well MW-8A,
north of the Flag City Chevron site. MtBE was identified in MW-8A at 700 micrograms per liter(µg/1)
on 27 March 2002, and confirmed in a second sample at 790 µg/I collected on 8 April 2002. MW-8A is
screened from 40 to 50 feet and has been non-detect for MtBE for the last nine monitoring events.
Based on this confirmed detection, AGE proposes to complete three push probe borings to 60 feet in the
vicinity of MW-8, and collect soil and groundwater samples to characterize MtBE contamination north
of the Flag City Chevron site.
As requested by Board staff in our 28 February 2002 Quarterly Monitoring Report review letter, AGE
proposes to install a cluster of three monitoring wells approximately 75 feet west of the former Rocky's
domestic water supply well (RDW-1). The cluster of monitoring wells will be used to monitor MtBE
found in the first three water bearing zones identified in cone penetrometer boring CPT-17. AGE also
proposes to install two additional monitoring/remedial wells and a triple-completion ozone sparging well
near former RDW-1 to complete feasibility testing for cleanup of the off-site MtBE groundwater plume.
Following well installation, AGE will complete a 24-hour aquifer test on each of the two monitoring/
remedial wells, and a four-week ozone sparging pilot test on the triple-completion ozone sparging well.
The Workplan is approved as written. Please complete well installation and feasibility testing, and
submit a revised Final Remediation Plan by 30 September 2002. Please notify me at least five business
days prior to any site work or sampling.
California Environmental Protection Agency
Co Recycled Paper
The energy challenge facing California is real.
