e
28 April 2000
AGE-NC Project No 00-0232
21 PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
An updated health and safety plan will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and
Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational
Safety and Health Administration, U S Coast Guard and U S Environmental Protection Agency,
1985) Pnor to mobilization, the area to advance three soil probe borings will be clearly marked and
a utility clearance obtained through Underground Service Alert
22 SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
Initially, AGE proposes to advance twelve soil probe borings and six hand-auger borings to assess
the lateral and vertical extent of the MTBE-impacted soil and ground water Six of the probe borings
will be advanced near the existing storm drainage system The remaining six probe borings will be
advanced north and southwest of the existing USTs, east and southeast of the fuel islands and
between the fuel islands and USTs Six hand auger boring will be advanced directly beneath the
dispensers to collect shallow soil samples Proposed bonng locations are illustrated in Figure 2
• The proposed probe bonng locations maybe modified due to field observations or additional bonngs
may be advanced with approval by the CVRWQCB Each proposed bonng will be advanced to 20
feet bsg Each hand auger bonng will be advanced to 2 or 3 feet bsg
Soil samples will be collected from each probe boring at five-foot intervals to total boring depths
Field procedures for advancement of borings and collection of soil samples are presented in Section
3 1 and 3 2 A soil sample will be collected from each hand auger boring at total depth
Soil samples from each boring will be submitted for laboratory analysis with the concurrence of the
CRWQCB-CVR The selected soil samples will be analyzed by a State of California Department 0f
Health Services (DHS)-certified laboratory for the following constituents
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) by EPA Method 8260B,
• Volatile aromatics(benzene,toluene,ethyl benzene and xylenes,BTEX)by EPA 8260B,and
• Fuel oxygenates including MTBE, tertiary-butyl alcohol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether(DIPE),
ethyl tertiary-butyl ether(ETBE),tertiary-amyl methyl ether(TAME),methanol and ethanol
by EPA Method 8260B
•
Advanced GcoEnvironmcntal,Inc
