' September 2007 • • padre
'
Project No. 0701-2621 aasoe area, ane.
fi iHnnoxreiriisnii+neis
' Padre will utilize hollow-stem auger drilling technology for the advancement of the drill
holes. In addition to soil samples collected for chemical analyses, soil from each sampled
interval will be retained for field screening and lithologic logging purposes. Field screening will
' be completed using a hand-held photoionization detector (PID). Soil classification will be
completed by a Padre geologist in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System
(USCS). The soil samples selected for chemical analyses will be immediately sealed with
'
Teflon TM film and capped to prevent the loss of any potential volatile organic compounds in the
sample. Following the sample preparation, each sample will be transferred and stored in an on-
site cooler packed with blue ice to maintain the sample temperature at approximately 4`C.
' Concurrent with the sample preservation activities, strict chain-of-custody procedures will be
implemented.
All generated soil cuttings and rinse water will be stored in 55-gallon DOT approved
drums pending laboratory analytical results. Upon completion, each drill hole will be abandoned
in accordance with SJCEHD rules and regulations.
' 2.5 LABORATORY ANALYTICAL PROGRAM
All collected soil samples will be delivered under chain-of-custody procedures to a State
of California-certified laboratory for potential chemical analyses. Initially, the surface (first
native soil below ballast material) soil samples will be selected for chemical analyses. The
' laboratory analytical program includes analyses of 5 soil samples for the presence of the
following constituents:
' • TPH by U.S. EPA method 8015M with carbon chain breakdown;
• Organochlorine Pesticides by U.S. EPA method 8081A;
• Creosols by U.S. EPA method 8270C; and
• CAM 17 metals by U.S. EPA method 6010/7000 series.
The deeper soil samples (3, 5, 7 feet, etc.) will be submitted to the analytical laboratory
and placed on-hold pending results of the surface soil samples.
' 3.0 REPORT PREPARATION
' Following receipt and review of the analytical data, Padre will prepare a report
documenting the subject preliminary soil assessment program. The report will document the
soil assessment methodology; site conditions encountered; field procedures utilized; and will
summarize the analytical results. The report will also identify, to the fullest extent possible, the
approximate volume of impacted soil, if encountered. The report will contain all appropriate
figures, and tabular data, and contain our conclusions and recommendations, as appropriate.
' The report will be signed and certified by a State of California-licensed Professional Geologist.
OZ292iTWP Oac
- 3 -
