J. H. KLEINFELDER & ASSOCIATES
File No. 5-2515-1
December 19, 1985
Page Two
Monday, October 21, 1985
By prior arrangement, the security guard at the Marley facility notified
the Writer that heavy rain was falling at approximately 1:30 A.M. A total of 19
were obtained at five different locations between the period of 2:20 A.M. to 5
A.M. During this period the intensity of the rain varied with a total rainfall
of .56 inches according to San Joaquin County Flood Control Department.
Starting at approximately 4:30 A.M., the two pumps failed to operate causing the
drain system to back-up and flood most of the north yard.
Sunday Morning, November 11, 1985
Due to previous committments, the Writer could not arrive at the site until
the storm had dropped all of the approximately .80 inches that fell. Five
samples were obtained approximately 15 minutes after the storm ended. There was
still runoff flowing into the drains. At Location 2, the runoff was very
colored and appeared to contain the last "drippings" of the treated wood. The
Writer also observed changes in the material storage at locations 1 and 2.
Monday :Morning, November 25, 1985
This was the first rainfall to occur during normal working hours. The
storm actually began on Sunday and was relatively heavy at times. On Monday the
rainfall was relatively sporatic. A technician from our firm obtained two sets
of samples (12 total) during one of the brief rainfall periods. The total rain-
fall for Sunday and Monday amounted to 1:11 inches.
For your information, we have included a summary of rainfall recorded by
San Joaquin Public Works Department located five miles from the Marley Cooling
Tower facility. As previously indicated however, it is possible that variations
in rainfall could occur between their yard and the Marley facility.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact
US.
Respectfully submitted,
J. H. KLEINFELDER & ASSOCIATES
Ron Heinzen, C. E.
RTH:rIs
Attachments
cc: Mr. Hal Daley/Mr. George Hopkins
