CALIFSIA REGIONAL WATER QUALITY CON* BOARD
CENTRAL VALLEY REGION
3443 Routier Road
Sacramento, California 95827
NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
and
Notice of Application for Waste Discharge Requirements
(National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permit)
for
MARLEY COOLING TOWER COMPANY
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
The Marley Cooling Tower Company has requested that their present NPDES permit,
which allows them to treat and discharge treated stormwater, be revised to
include the treatment and discharge of treated ground water. Since their
stormwater and ground water are contaminated with wood treatment chemicals
(compounds containing copper, arsenic and chromium) used on-site, treatment is
required prior to discharge to surface waters. The discharge (0.37 mgd) will
continue to the Stockton Diverting Canal , which flows into the Calaveras River.
The existing discharge is governed by Waste Discharge Requirements Order No.
86-004 (NPDES No. CA0081787) . The proposed requirements include limits for
arsenic, copper, and chromium to protect beneficial uses.
A public hearing concerning this matter will be held:
DATE: 25 September 1987
TIME: 10:00 a.m.
PLACE: Department of Health Services
714 P Street, Auditorium
Sacramento, CA
Persons wishing to comment on or object. to the proposed requirements are invited
to submit same in writing to the Regional Board no later than 15 September 1987.
All comments or objections received by this date will be considered in the
draft waste discharge requirements.
A public hearing may be held upon the request of any interested person. After
considering comments or objections, the Board may issue waste discharge
requirements.
Anyone having questions on these requirements should contact the Project
Engineer, Gary Reents, at (916) 361-5742. The proposed requirements and related
documents are open to public inspection at the Regional Board office at 3443
Routier Road, Sacramento, California, weekdays between 8:00 and 5:00.
Please bring the above information to the attention of anyone you may know who
would be interested in this matter.
i IUtBI'Lc.'
LAWRENCE PEARSON, P.E. , Supervising Engineer
8/19/87:GAR:jj
