MARLEY COOLING TOWER COMPANY
STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA FACILITY
WATER TREATMENT PLANT STARTUP PROGRAM
INTRODUCTION
The Marley Cooling Tower Company (MCTC) is installing a cater
treatment plant on the North Yard of its Stockton, California wood
treating facility. The water treatment plant will remove wood treating
chemicals from North Yard storm cater runoff, runoff presently held in
the surface impoundment or pond, and groundwater extracted from beneath
the site.
The wood treating chemicals will be removed using an ion exchange
water treatment plant. The water treatment plant consists of two weak
base anion exchangers in series followed by a weak acid cation
exchanger. Hexavalent chromium species and other anionic wood treating
chemicals will be removed from the water in the anion exchangers and
retained on the anion resin. Trivalent chromium, copper and other
cationic wood treating chemicals will be removed from the water in the
cation exchanger and retained on the cation resin. Removed chemicals
will be recycled in the wood treatment process for reuse. Refer to the
Water Treatment Plant — Description of Operation for more information.
THEORETICAL BASIS FOR PREDICTED PERFORMANCE
The concentrations of wood treating chemicals expected in the
waters to be treated are listed in Table 1.
1
