The pretreated water is subsequently passed
through the existing ion exchange water treatment plant to reduce remaining
wood treating chemicals in conformance with the requirements of the NPDES
permit. The recovered wood treating chemicals (copper and chromium) will
be reused in the wood treating process.
The sludge generated from the pretreatment process will contain low
concentrations of arsenic and be discharged to the existing Sludge Drying
Beds. The sludge will continue to be sampled and analyzed for hazardous
constituents and disposed of at an approved disposal site.
If you have any questions regarding this information, please do not
hesitate to contact me (913-339-7046) .
Very truly yours,
BLACK & VEATCH
Thomas A.
