MARLEY COOLING TOWER COMPANY
STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA FACILITY
PRETREATMENT SYSTEM
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report presents a description of the pretreatment system at the
Marley Cooling Tower Company in Stockton, California. Due to the
presence of arsenic, organics and suspended solids in the storm water,
the existing filtering system and ion exchange units were not effective
in the treatment of storm water as originally conceived. As a result,
alternative technologies were evaluated and laboratory and full-scale
tests were performed to determine the most effective pretreatment system
for the storm water. A limited number of alternatives were evaluated
due to the capabilities of the existing water treatment plant and the
treatability of the storm water. Based on the recommendations of the
report, a mobile pretreatment system was setup onsite to treat storm
water in the winter of 1987-88. In the spring and summer of 1988, a
permanent system was designed with the installation scheduled for
completion in mid-December, 1988. The following sections provide a
detailed description of the pretreatment facility.
11654 1-1
VLS120288
