Attachment 1 V"
FIELD AND LABORATORY PROCEDURES
Chevron Service Station 9-0557, 139 South Center Street, Stockton,
California
Health and Safety
In accordance with Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) Standard "Hazardous
Waste Operations and Emergency Response" guidelines (29 CFR 1910.120), and by California
Occupational Health and Safety Administration (Cal-OSHA) "Hazardous Waste Operations and
Emergency Response" guidelines (CCR Title 8, Section 5192), SECOR will prepare, a Site-Specific
Health and Safety Plan for use during fieldwork. The field staff and contractors will review, the Site-
Specific Health and Safety Plan before beginning field operations at the site.
Soil Sampling
Soil samples will be collected by advancing 2-inch-diameter brass sample liners into undisturbed soil
with an impact (slide hammer) sampler. Soil samples for chemical analysis will be retained in the
brass liners, labeled, and capped with Teflon sheets and plastic end caps. The samples will then be
sealed in zip-lock bags, placed on ice, and transported to a laboratory accompanied by the
appropriate chain-of-custody documentation.
Laboratory Analysis of Soil Samples
Soil samples collected will be analyzed, at a minimum, for the presence of total petroleum
hydrocarbons quantified as. gasoline (TPHg), total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as diesel
(TPHd), and total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as motor oil (TPHmo) by EPA Method 8015,
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX) and the fuel oxygenates methyl tertiary butyl ether
(MtBE), tertiary butanol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (EtBE), tertiary-
amyl methyl ether (TAME), 1,2-dibromomethane (EDB), 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA), and ethanol
by EPA Method 8260, and total lead by EPA Method 7420.
Soil Stockpiling and Sampling
Upon excavation, soil will be stockpiled onsite and covered with plastic sheeting. Four samples of
the stockpiled soil will be collected and composited for analysis per 100 cubic yards of soil, or as
required by the licensed receiving facility or San Joaquin County. Chevron's waste management
contractor will haul impacted soil excavated from the site to an appropriate waste disposal facility.
The anticipated period of time in which excavated soil will remain stockpiled onsite prior to offsite
disposal will be approximately four to six weeks. i
