Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
Re: Scope of Work for Monitor Well Construction in the Vicinity
of the Marley Cooling Tower Company, Stockton, California
Dear Ms. Ratliff:
Hargis + Associates, Inc. (H+A) is conducting a continuing groundwater
assessment for the Marley Cooling Tower Company (MCTC) in accordance with the
Settlement Agreement and Schedule of Compliance in Case No. CAD0091040120
executed by the California Department of Health Services, the Central Valley
Regional Water Quality Control Board, and MCTC. The groundwater assessment scope
of work in the vicinity of the MCTC facility in, Stockton, California consists
of drilling and construction of as many as three exploratory boreholes and
monitor wells and two reclamation wells. Drilling is scheduled to commence on
or about May 6, 1991.
The three monitor wells and exploratory boreholes are proposed to assist
in defining the downgradient extent of total dissolved chromium in the
groundwater. Initially, one monitor well will be constructed on Walker Lane
approximately 1100 feet south of Main Street. If groundwater samples from this
newly constructed monitor well contain total dissolved chromium, then two
additional monitor wells will be constructed on Walker Lane. One approximately
250 foot exploratory boring will be drilled adjacent to all monitor well
locations on Walker Lane prior to well construction.
Two reclamation wells were proposed in the February 4, 1991 Revised
Remedial Wellfield Design Report. The two reclamation wells will be constructed
on Horner Avenue approximately 100 feet west of Gertrude Avenue and on Sinclair
Avenue approximately 800 feet south of Washington Street. These reclamation
wells were identified in the February 4, 1991 report as reclamation wells S-4 and
S-6, respectively.
Exploratory borehole and well construction details are as follows:
The 6-inch diameter exploratory boreholes to 250 feet in depth will
be drilled using conventional mud rotary equipment. The boreholes will be
geophysically logged once drilling has been advanced to total depth.
Exploratory boreholes will be abandoned with neat cement.
