3.0 SAMPLING AND MONITORING PLAN
3.1 OBJECTIVES OF THE SAMPLING AND MONITORING ACTIVITIES
The objectives of the sampling and monitoring activities to be conducted
during each phase of the subsurface soil flushing remedial action are
described in the following sections.
3.1.1 Phase I ObJectives
• Identify the following subsurface soil characteristics at discrete
depths and locations:
- arsenic, copper, hexavalent chromium, and total chromium
concentrations
- dry bulk density, specific gravity, and gravimetric moisture
content
- detailed geologic cross section of pilot site geology
• Identify the following pore water and ground water characteristics
at discrete depths and locations:
- arsenic, copper, hexavalent chromium, and total chromium
concentrations and ground water levels
3.1.2 Phase II Objectives
• Identify pore water and ground water chemical characteristics,
before, during, and after pilot study soil flushing.
• Identify chemical characteristics of,the injected water and modify
if necessary.
• Monitor water injection rate for injection wells.
• Monitor water table elevation.
• Monitor the moisture content of the soil profile.
• Monitor lateral migration of flushed water.
• Characterize the extracted ground water quality for consideration
within the design of the high strength waste treatment system and
to assess the effectiveness of the soil flushing.
• Identify and characterize the radius of influence for the injection
and extraction wells.
11654.652 3-1
