least sixty thin-walled tubes during Phase I and a minimum of thirty <br /> thin-walled tubes for Phase III. <br /> Thin-walled tubes will be labeled by the Engineer. The Contractor shall <br /> supply labels with space for job name, boring number, and interval <br /> sampled. <br /> The coupling head for the thin-walled tube sampler shall be decontami- <br /> nated after obtaining each sample. Thin-walled tubes shall be <br /> decontaminated and shall not be used more than once. <br /> The ends of the thin-walled tubes shall be sealed by the Contractor by <br /> sealing the ends of the soil in the tube with wax, providing a spacer <br /> for partial recovery and taping an air-tight plastic cap over each end <br /> of the tube, as approved by the Engineer. <br /> 2A-6. ABANDONMENT OF BORINGS. Any boring that does not meet the depth, <br /> alignment, plumbness or other requirements, or any boring on which the <br /> Contractor stops work prior to completion, will be considered as an <br /> abandoned boring. A new boring shall be started in the immediate <br /> vicinity at a location designated by the Engineer. No payment will be <br /> made for any work on an abandoned boring. An abandoned boring shall be <br /> backfilled and sealed with cement-bentonite grout in accordance with <br /> Section 2A-8, as approved by the Engineer. <br /> 2A-7. WELLS, MONITORING TUBES, AND LYSIMETERS. The Contractor shall <br /> furnish all labor, materials, and equipment required for installing <br /> injection and extraction wells, monitoring tubes, and lysimeters as <br /> specified herein. No solvents or lubricants shall be used, unless <br /> approved by the Engineer, before or during the installation of the <br /> wells, monitoring tubes, and lysimeters. The extraction well , <br /> monitoring tubes, and lysimeters shall be vertical . All injection <br /> wells, except IW-6, 7 and 8, shall be vertical . IW-6, 7 and 8 shall be <br /> 450 from the horizontal . <br /> Construction diagrams for the wells, monitoring tubes, and lysimeters <br /> are included on Drawings G-3 and G-5. <br /> PVC pipe and screen sections shall be joined using threaded flush joints <br /> that are acceptable to the Engineer. Riser pipe and screen shall not be <br /> joined using solvent welding or glue. All PVC pipe and screen shall be <br /> new. Pipe tees shall be installed approximately 2 feet below land <br /> surface during construction of the injection wells. Only the pipe tees <br /> can be solvent welded or glued to the riserpipes for the injection <br /> wells. <br /> Each well (except for the extraction well ) , monitoring tube, and <br /> lysimeter shall be provided with a heavy-duty, watertight, cast-iron <br /> protective enclosure, with similarly keyed padlocks. The covers shall <br /> be cleaned and primed prior to painting with two coats of rust <br /> (MARLEY SSFS ) 2A-6 <br /> (CONTRACT NO. 13) <br /> (11654.652 ) <br />
