Engineer shall each be responsible for providing sampling equipment,
sample containers, and sample shipment supplies.
2A-5.01 .- Split Barrel Sampling. Split barrel samples shall be obtained
and resistance to soil penetration shall be measured using a split
barrel sampler in accordance with ASTM D 1586. Penetration resistance
(blow count) for each 6 inch increment shall be required.
The coupling head for the split barrel sampler shall be provided with a
ball check valve and shall have open vents. The sampler shall also be
equipped with a spring type sample retainer or an equivalent retainer
acceptable to the Engineer. The Contractor shall have three complete
split barrel samplers on the drill rig. The barrel for the sampler
shall be at least 24 inches in length to allow for two foot long
samples.
The split barrel sampler shall be decontaminated after obtaining each
sample.
2A-5.02. Ring-Lined Split Barrel Sampling. Ring-lines (California
Modified) split barrel samples shall be obtained using a ring-lined
split barrel sampler in accordance with ASTM D3550. A 300 pound hammer
shall be used to obtain samples. The coupling head for the ring-lined
sampler shall be provided with a waste barrel and check valve and shall
have open vents. Four 6-inch long thin-walled rings shall be provided
for each sample taken. These rings shall be composed of brass and shall
have a nominal diameter of 2.5 inches. The Contractor shall provide two
plastic end caps and labels for each ring submitted for laboratory
analysis. Unused brass rings may be decontaminated and reused. All
undamaged brass rings will be returned to the Contractor.
The sampler shall be equipped with a spring type sample retainer or an
equivalent retainer acceptable to the Engineer. The Contractor shall
have two complete ring-lined split barrel samplers on the drill rig.
The barrel for the two samplers shall be at least 24 inches in length to
allow for 2-foot samples.
The ring-lined split barrel sampler shall be decontaminated after
obtaining each sample.
2A-5.03. Thin-Walled Tube Sampling. Thin-walled tube samples shall be
obtained using thin-walled tubes in accordance with ASTM D 1581.
The coupling head of the thin-walled tube sampler shall be provided with
a ball check valve and shall have open vents. Tubes shall be new and
coated with a suitable plastic lacquer. Tubes shall recover a sample at
least 3 inches in diameter. Tubes shall be furnished in 30 inch lengths
and shall either be constructed of seamless steel or welded seam steel
provided welds do not project at the seam. The Contractor shall have at
(MARLEY SSFS ) PA-5
(CONTRACT NO. 13)
(11654.652 )
