pounds per gallon. Cement shall conform to ASTM C 150, Type I . The
grout shall be thoroughly mixed and shall be used before any stiffening
occurs. The Contractor shall provide a mud balance for checking the
weight of the grout.
A cement grout slurry shall be used for monitoring tubes and shall
consist of 100 percent cement mixed with 5.2 gallons of water per 94
pounds of cement to yield a liquid grout weighing approximately 15.5
pounds per gallon. Cement shall conform to ASTM C 150, Type I. The
grout shall be thoroughly mixed and shall be used before any stiffening
occurs. The grout shall be tamped with a steel rod with a hemispherical
end, or vibrated into place with a concrete vibrator. The tamping or
vibrating shall be performed in 5 foot lifts.
Grout slurries shall be installed by the tremie method. This shall
consist of pumping the slurry down the annular space through a pipe.
The bottom of the pipe shall be placed near the bottom of the zone to be
grouted and shall be raised as the slurry is placed, always keeping the
bottom of the tremie pipe below the top of the slurry. Pumps, piping,
and other materials for mixing and pumping such slurries shall be
provided by the Contractor.
2A-9. WELL DEVELOPMENT. Development shall only be required for the
extraction well and the monitoring tubes. The extraction well shall be
developed by pumping water from the well until the discharge water is
clear, as determined by the Engineer, and sounding indicates all loose
material has been removed from the bottom of the well . The monitoring
tubes shall be developed until a minimum of five casing volumes of water
have been removed from the monitoring tubes, the discharge water is
clear, and sounding indicates all loose material has been removed from
the monitoring tube. The Contractor shall dispose of all discharge
water in accordance with the requirements of Section 2A-12. All
equipment and tools, including hoses and pumps, required for well
development shall be decontaminated.
2A-10. SUBMERSIBLE PUMPS. During Phase I , existing monitoring well MW-
206 shall be used as the extraction well . The Contractor shall rewire
the existing pump presently in the well for use during the pilot test.
The discharge from monitoring well MW-206 shall be routed to the
effluent piping from monitoring well MW-214 as shown on Drawing G-1.
The controls for the pump in the existing well shall be modified so that
the pump shuts off if the water within the well drops to within 5 feet
of the pump intake.
During Phase III , the pump from existing well MW-206 shall be removed,
and new submersible pumps as specified in the Submersible Pump section
shall be installed in existing well MW-206 and the extraction well EW-2.
The locations of the pumps within the wells will be determined by the
Engineer at the time of Phase III construction. The pumps shall be
installed so that it is easy to remove or change the location of the
(MARLEY SSFS ) 2A-11
(CONTRACT NO. 13)
(11654.652 )
