The full scale soil flushing program is scheduled to begin on or before
April 20, 1992.
During the middle of September, 1991, we anticipate completing a final suite of
neutron probe measurements and then immediately commence confirmation drilling.
Confirmation drilling will be used to collect soil physical data, including moisture
contents, to determine the actual extent of lateral saturation and to use in the
correlation of neutron probe counts with moisture content. Four deep borings (80
feet) will be drilled, one each adjacent to MT-1,2,3, and 4, and three optional shallow
borings (45 feet) will be field located to provide greater definition of moisture
contents in the upper clay units.
Following drilling and laboratory analyses of the soil samples, the neutron probe
consultant will create calibration curves and submit his final report. Subsequently,
the pilot study data and a final evaluation report will be submitted to the regulatory
agencies. The final report will also include recommended modifications to the full
scale design, if appropriate. A 30 day period of regulatory review will follow. If
necessary, additional modifications will be made to accommodate regulatory concerns.
Construction of the full scale system will begin in mid-February, 1992 and will take
6-8 weeks to complete. As mentioned previously, operation of the full scale soil
flushing system will commence on April 20, 1992. See Table 1 for a complete
schedule of activities.
