Appendix C:Initial Study Checklist Former Marley Cooling Tower Company,Stockton,CA
Conclusion:
❑ Potentially Significant Impact
❑ Potentially Significant Unless Mitigated
® Less Than Significant Impact
❑ No Impact
b. Create a significant hazard to the public or the environment through reasonably foreseeable upset and accident
conditions involving the release of hazardous materials into the environment.
Impact Analysis: Franklin High School is located adjacent to the west side of the Site. The nearest residencies are
within a quarter mile of the Site to the south and southeast. No hazardous materials should be released during
routine operation at each injection site. Note: The injection solution is highly diluted with water and less hazardous
than the CaSx product. in the event of an accidental spill or release of injection solution during mixing or injection
activities, containment and clean up will be done by using absorbent material (clay based material). Contaminated
absorbent material will be containerized and disposed of per appropriate laws and regulations. During site activities
associated with handling open containers or mixing the injection solution, site-specific Health and Safety Pian
procedures will be followed to ensure worker safety. Personal protective equipment will include, but not be limited to,
the following: Full-body protective clothing, chemical-resistant gloves and boots, chemical workers goggles and full-
face shield. A National Institute of Heatth/MSHA approved full-face respirator with H2S gas cartridge will be available
on site for each worker, if necessary. As noted above, project activities on school grounds will be conducted when
school is not in session.
Conclusion:
❑ Potentially Significant Impact
❑ Potentially Significant Unless Mitigated
® Less Than Significant Impact
❑ No Impact
c. Emit hazardous emissions or handle hazardous or acutely hazardous materials, substances or waste within one-
quarter mile of an existing or proposed school.
Impact Analysis: No hazardous substances should be released from routine drill injections. In the event that
hazardous material is generated during drilling (i.e,, drill mud or injection solution) all hazardous material will be
containerized and secured within the work site and restricted from the public prior to disposal per appropriate laws
and regulations.
Conclusion:
❑ Potentially Significant Impact
❑ Potentially Significant Unless Mitigated
® Less Than Significant Impact
❑ No impact
d. Be located on a site which is included on a list of hazardous materials sites compiled pursuant to Government Code
Section 65962.5 and, as a result, would it create a significant hazard to public or the environment.
Impact Analysis: The project site is listed on the Cortese list of hazardous waste sites. The project will serve to
reduce contaminants to safe levels through in-situ remediation and monitored natural attenuation.
Conclusion:
❑ Potentially Significant Impact
❑ Potentially Significant Unless Mitigated
® Less Than Significant Impact
❑ No Impact
e. Impair implementation of, or physically interfere with, an adopted emergency response plan or emergency evacuation
plan.
Impact Analysis: Drill rigs should not interfere with emergency response plans. Sufficient access around the work
areas will be maintained to allow for emergency response personnel and equipment,
Conclusion.
❑ Potentially Significant Impact
