Clayton, CA 94517 510-672-7976 --- VAX 51047-2-5837
FACSIMILE
0- 72-
FACSIMILE TRANSMISSION COVER PAGE
Date: December 3, 1996
To: Mr. Ed Ralston
UNOCAL
510-277-2311
FAX: 510-277-2309
No. Pages (including cover): 6
From: Thomas Stoflet
Subject: UST CLOSURE AND SITE CLOSURE
1034 CENTRAL AVENUE
TRACY, CALIFORNIA
I
Message: This FAX follows up on our conversations regarding the subject matter.
UST Closure
Wells Fargo Bank(WFB) is still concerned regarding further demonstration of the absence of the
third UST in the northwestern portion of the site as shown of the attached UNOCAL drawing.
As shown on the attached sketch, metal of equivalent was found at depths of 4 to 4.5 feet below
grade (bgs) in two hand augered borings (No. 1 and 3). This depth is the same depth where the
other two recently removed USTs were found. Based upon scaling the UNOCAL drawing, the
diameter of the third UST may be 4 feet and its possible location is shown on the sketch. While
the interferences (e.g., metal) found in the borings could also be a pipe, their presence and the
pipes believed to be from the third UST which were left in the excavation casts some suspicion
on the absence of the third UST. Therefore, WFB requests that additional borings be advanced
on the other side of the traffic control box via coring through the concrete sidewalk. The I
recommended locations of the borings are shown on the attached sketch, but they can be relocated
to eliminate any interferences due to utilities for example. If no impediments are found in these
borings, then these findings along with other findings (e.g., observation during trenching) can be
used. to support a conclusion that the third UST has been removed.
I
This facsimile transmission is intended only for use of the individual or entity to which it is addressed and may contain
information that is privileged, confidential and exempt from disclosure under applicable law.
